Corfu is one of the most beautiful islands which worth a visit all year round. Apart from the beautiful and numerous beaches of Corfu, it also has many attractions, museums, squares, castles and fortresses to visit during your stay. In addition, a walk through the small roads of the old city and its nostalgic neighborhoods will make you feel as if you were traveling in time.
The island of Corfu is also famous for its customs and events on the days of Holy Week and Easter. Easter is a very special experience in Corfu full of color, flavors and magical sounds as on the night of the Resurrection the philharmonic groups unite their sounds and walk through the roads of the old town.
Paleokastritsa – Sandy beach with crystal clear waters, nice landscape, organized and with free parking.
Canal d’amour, Sidari – One of the most unique beaches in Corfu, sandy and surrounded by sandy rocks
Porto Timoni – You can reach the beach either by boat from Agios Georgios or by car. There is parking space although, the access is more difficult since, from that spot you parking the car, you have to follow a path for twenty minutes, to reach the beach. Porto Timoni Is a beautiful beach that will reward you at the end of the journey. Please notice that it is unorganized.
Peroulades / Loggas – A unique landscape with huge high rocks. At this point it has the best sunset in Corfu. In addition, there is a bar-restaurant with parking in the area where you can park your car.
Drastis– Close to Loggas beach, in the village of Peroulades, you will find in the main square, a sign that will leads you to the cape of the Drastis. It’s paradise. From there you can rent a small boat to visit many other beaches.
Liston – It is a large pedestrian street with mansions next to each other forming a “corridor” with arches. One of the most characteristic squares in Corfu. There are many restaurants and cafés there. Also nearby are the Palace, the church of Agios Spyridon and the old town of Corfu with its picturesque streets.
Spianada – Right next to Liston is Spianada Square, the largest square in the Balkans, where you can often hear playing music some of the Corfu Philharmonic Orchestra. During the Easter, in that spot, all the Philharmonics unite their music. After the Resurrection, an impressive show takes place there with constant fireworks for 10 minutes.
Heroes’ Square – Next to Liston is Heroes’ Square, a lively spot with bars and restaurants. Just in front of the church of Agios Spyridon.
Saint Helena Square – A small square that is more reminiscent of an inner courtyard of houses. It is surrounded by tall buildings and houses and looks like a secret or hidden place.
Town Hall Square – The most important square for the wealthy Venetians. Loggia, a place of the nobles, operated on the site where the City Hall is today and was built from the finest material, the stone Sinion.
Saint Michael’s and George’s Palace – Known as the Old Palace. It is a Regency-style neoclassical building, with its own long history. Its’ location in the center of Corfu, between the old town hall and the Venetian castle. It now operates as a Museum of Asian Art. The coffee bar in the palace gardens, which has its own gallery with exhibitions by local and international artists, is also known as Art Café.
Achilleion – Also known as Palace of Sissi. It is located 10 kilometers from the center of Corfu and 3 kilometers from Menitsa. Queen Elizabeth spend here a part of her life, after her doctor advised her that, Corfu’s climate would help her health. The name of the palace is based on the Queen’s great love for the mythical Hero Achilles. The decoration was done by Queen Elizabeth herself. The building now functions as a museum with exhibits of many statues of beautiful gardens, as well as wonderful interior decorations. At the entrance, on the ceiling there is the fresco of the Italian painter Galopi, depicting the four seasons.
Mon Repos – A neoclassical building in Corfu, with large landscaped gardens. It was the summer residence of the royal family and today it functions as a museum and a historical site, filled with archaeological treasures.
Pontikonissi – Pontikonissi along with Vlacherna is one of the emblematic points of Corfu. You can reach Panagia Vlacherna by a small footbridge. There are boats to take you to Pontikonissi. Typically the church – monastery of Pantokratoras in Pontikonissi is only open on 6th of August.
Angelokastro – Located near Paleokastritsa area. A Byzantine castle that accepted many sieges but never was conquered, except once, after a six-month siege by the Venetians. Inside the castle are two churches of the Holy Sunday and the Holy Archangels.
It is also worth to visit the Old Fortress, the Kaiser Throne with the fantastic view that will captivate you and many other places, depending on the time you can spend. In any case, the Gouvia Marina, the first private marina, is very close to the Silver Bay Hotel. It is a spectacular sight as it has a total of 1235 boat parking spaces. There are various cafés, bars and restaurants in the area.
